A Few Odds and Ends

CJ had a project for career day at school this last month for a "Wax Museum".  It was so stinkin' cute.  She memorized a little speech and made posters to post.  The career she chose was paleontology.  She did so good, we were so proud of her.  They had these red "buttons" (circles of paper) that said "Push for English".  When we push the "button" they start with their little speech.  I made a recording of her doing it, but you can't hear her because of all the kids doing their sh-peals.

She is doing so much better in school.  Although she will be doing a month of summer school this year to keep her on track.  Her teacher is worried that she will slip during the summer.  Spencer and I think it is a good idea.

In other news, Reed is learning more tricks!  He likes to go up and down the stairs, climb on the couch, throw my phone and the remotes behind the couch, and he likes to crawl backwards.  It is pretty funny.

He is also starting to take his first steps!  It will be nice when he is walking, it is too easy to trip over him right now.

He is getting more and more brave everyday!

The Girls First Piano Recital

The girls are taking piano lessons!!  Today was their very first recital.  They did SO good!!!  They started lessons about 5 weeks ago and have just picked right up on it.  They have worked so hard to get their pieces just right and today they did such an excellent job!  Here is Avary's piece:  Ode to Joy, Beethoven (the video goes a little weird, but you can still see and hear her good)

She has had so much fun on the piano.  She practices when she is supposed to and sometimes when she isn't supposed to.  She has really learned fast and I can't wait to see how far they will go with this.

Here is CJ's piece:  Puff the Magic Dragon (are you surprised?)

She too has worked really hard on this piece.  She picked this song all by herself, surprise surprise, and she has practiced each piece of the song so diligently.  I couldn't be more proud.  :)

Their teacher is sitting on the stand with them.  She is a lady from our ward that is just gifted and talented in the music department.  She majored in music in college.  She is amazing and she is an amazing teacher.  All three of us love her.  Yes, I am taking lessons too, but I chose to opt out of the recital because I wanted it to be the girls.

I love my little princesses, they work so hard and I am so proud of them.  Good work today ladies!!!!  We love you and we are incredibly proud of you!!  Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see you in the summer recital.

Reed's First Birthday

So, I know I am a couple weeks late on this post, but it has been one BUSY couple weeks, or I guess two couple weeks.  Anyway, our little boy turned one.  Doesn't seem possible that a year ago I had this little guy.  It went ENTIRELY way too fast for my taste.   When he was born he was 7 pounds 2 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long.  Now he is 22 pounds 2 ounces (36%) and 32 inches long (95%).  Kid is a monster!

We started the day off with pancakes for breakfast.  He likes pancakes so I thought I would give him a special treat.  Daddy came home early from work and we went to the park for about 20 minutes, because he wasn't really into it and we wanted to catch an early dinner.  We opened presents before we left for dinner.  He really go a lot of cute things.  He especially loved the "microphone" we got him.  He loves to bang that thing around and when he does he gets the funniest grin on his face.  What was really awesome was that he crawled to his pile of presents and opened every single one by himself.  Spencer and I didn't have to open any of his gifts for him.  The girls weren't like that, they wouldn't open their presents, but Reed sure knew what he was doing.  After presents we took him to Texas Roadhouse for his birthday dinner and they sang to him.  It was really funny because he just looked at them like they were all nuts.

Since his birthday landed on a Thursday this year we had his actual party that Saturday.  We invited our neighbors and really good friends.  It was quite the party.

We had quite the spread.  His party was monkey themed so I made pizza monkey bread with marinara for dipping.  I also had a salad, a fruit tray with fruit dip and I made a spinach and artichoke dip for some chips.  It really turned out good.  Spencer did all the decorating and he did AWESOME!  I made cupcakes for everyone that came.  We had chocolate with chocolate buttercream and banana with cream cheese icing.  They were so yummy.  Reeds cake was the banana because he REALLY likes bananas.  This is a collage of pictures from his actual birth-day and his party a couple days later.  The yo-yo monkey there in the middle I started making for him before he was born.  I finally got it done a week before the party.  My friend Katie mentioned that I should sell them, then I told her how long it took me and she took back the comment....it was really funny.

He was pretty cute with his cake.  Made more of a mess than CJ did, but not near as messy as Avary was.

We invited our good friends the Kelly's, the same who mentioned I should sell the yo-yo monkeys,  who had a girl just about a week and a half after Reed was born.  We joke around that they are "betrothed", it is really funny.  Anyway, back when he was blessed and CJ was baptized we got some pictures of the two of them:

And here they are today:

The cute little love birds.  ;)  It was really sad later though because we found out the next day that she had broken her leg 10 minutes before they left for Reed's party.  Poor thing, her mom said she was fussy all day except at my house.  You can see a little swelling of her leg in this picture, the left leg.  She is such a doll though and Reed just towers over her.  They are so cute.  We went to her first birthday party just a couple days ago, of which I did the cake (pictures to come in a later post).

It was such a fun day.  We had so many wonderful friends that came and supported Reed for his birthday.  We are truly blessed to have such wonderful people to call friends here in Colorado.  The only thing missing was family.  He seemed to have had a good day.  We sure love ya, buddy!  Happy birthday!
