January Business

January was a busy month for cakes.  I'm not complaining, I had a BLAST doing them.  It started off with a wedding cake I did for a friend of mine from Culinary School.  I loved doing this cake.

It was so different and it turned out exactly how I imagined it would.  I love it when that happens.

Next up was a cake for the youngest daughter of CJ's sunbeam teacher when we moved here.  Her "baby" turned 16 and it wasn't a typical sweet 16 cake...which was fine by me.

I guess she is really into Jack Skelington the Pumpkin King from A Nightmare Before Christmas.  This cake turned out pretty cool.  What I can't show is that I layered the cake in a way that when she cut into it it was checkered.  I LOVED doing this cake.

I then turned my attention to yet another Broncos birthday cake for a boy Spencer and I taught in primary.  He is a real Broncos fan and last year I did an orange cake with the Bronco logo on it.  This year he wanted it in the shape of a helmet.  I think it turned out pretty cool.

I did the carving all by myself, Spencer just printed the template out for me.  I must be moving up in my skill???

Last but not least.  Last year I did some Elmo cupcakes for a friend of mine for her sons second birthday.  This year the theme was Firetruck.

I think it turned out alright.  I had been diagnosed with the flu the day I made it so by the end of the day I was just lucky to get it done.  I think it turned out pretty good considering.

I love doing cake.  I wish I were able to do more, but I'm happy with what I do get to do.

December 2012

December was a very busy month for us.  Reed got his first haircut, Spencer and I celebrated 11 years of marriage, and it was Christmas.  I'm always so relieved when Christmas is over.  Reed did super good getting his hair cut.  He was the best looking guy in the place....next to his dad of course.

For our 11 year anniversary Spencer surprised me with reservations at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.  The Broadmoor is a very upscale hotel and resort that is known around the world.  I always thought it would be neat to go there someday, and Spencer surprised me with a stay overnight this year.  Probably won't be going back unless we win the lottery, but it was really neat for a night.  It was pretty funny though because everywhere we went...and I do mean everywhere even the shops, the workers would congratulate us on our anniversary.  After a while it started to get a little freaky, but it was fun.  The room was SUPER nice.  The bathroom was as big as the bedroom was and all the Christmas decorations were absolutely breathtaking.  Dinner was absolutely divine and unforgettable
.

A couple days later was Christmas.  The kids really had a great Christmas.  Reed loved ALL his presents.  He wanted to play with them as soon as he opened them.  It was super cute.  Especially when he opened his bow ties.  He immediately wanted them all on, we could only fit two.  CJ and Avary got everything they wanted and Spencer got a new years supply of popcorn from Santa.  Although, I think it might not make it quite a year this year.

All and all it was a really good December.  A few things that we could have done without, but the magic of spending the time with your family is always a treasure.
