Sorry I haven't blogged for a while, we have all been SO busy! I'm in school five days a week and struggling to spend the time I need with the family. Good news is that I won't be in school much longer, I will graduate in September, I'm REALLY excited. Anyway here is an update on what has been happening the past month and a half.
It is finally Spring/Summer here in Denver. We kept getting snow storms and I was starting to wonder if we would ever see green grass again. It is a relief. We got our garden planted. We planted this corn that they grow here called Peaches and Cream corn, the BEST corn we have EVER tasted. We are really excited. We are also growing carrots, chard, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, thistles, crook neck, more thistles, and butternut squash. (Yes, I did say thistles.) The thistles are taking over our squash box this year and the frustrating part about it is not that they are stickery but that they break off and you can't get the roots out! Hopefully we can keep them under control so that we can get good squash this year.
Mother's day was very nice. Spencer made pancakes for us in the morning, LOVE his pancakes. I don't know what it is but when I make pancakes from the same recipe they don't taste as good as his. He is becoming quite the cook. Still can't multi-task though, but that is OK. He then proceeded to attempt dinner. We were going to have company over for dinner and he started making the dessert around 5 o'clock. Around 5:30 he was still working on it and he hadn't started dinner yet. I went downstairs and asked if he wanted me to help and with a desperate, defeated tone he said yes. I was more than happy to help him out. He gave me tickets to "Spamalot" and the girls gave me a rubber toy lizard and my mom a rubber toy turtle. I haven't been able to play with my lizard because CJ has adopted it as her own. As soon as I opened it she said, "Mommy, you going to share?!" I think "share" to CJ is "give it to me?". When CJ and Avary start fighting over it I say it is mine and CJ reminds me that I am sharing "remember?" She is too funny, they both are.
Spamalot was AWESOME. John O'Hurley, Elaine's boss on Seinfeld, was King Arthur and it was spectacular. We laughed so hard, it was great. I am so glad that we were able to go and see it, I wouldn't have traded it for the world.
We had some overnight guests a little while back. Spencer's brother Ricky and his friend Mark stopped by on their way to Forth Worth, Texas. The girls were really excited to see him. They keep asking when he is going to come back.
School is going alright. Busy busy busy. CJ is out of school for the summer now. I am so jealous. She had her first field trip about a week before the last day of school. They went to the zoo and Spencer was a chaperon. We felt more comfortable about her going on a field trip if one of us were there since she has already gotten lost there once. I have been working hard volunteering for as much as I can handle. A little while back I had the opportunity to work in the Governor's Mansion. From the outside it wasn't too spectacular. It was big, but it seemed a little dirty, or run down. As soon as we got inside and got a tour, WOW! It was SO beautiful. I got to meet the Governor's Wife, she was really not at all what I expected. She was really funny and relaxed, it was a great experience.
Spencer trapped a bunny in our backyard and set Jersey loose, it was pretty funny. He keeps meaning to put the video on the blog, but hasn't yet. He will though. Jersey went NUTS! We laughed, but we have agreed that that was the first AND last time that we were going to do that. Now, every time the girls pray they pray that Jersey and the bunny can play nice together, it is really sweet.
I try to call the girls when I am at school for a while. One day I called home and my mom informed me that she had had a very interesting morning. She then proceeded to tell me the following. She was doing the dishes and heard a strange sound. When she looked up she saw a squirrel urinating on our window. Jersey was out side and had caught her eye on the squirrel. Jersey would bark and the squirrel would hold on to the house and jabber. Finally mom got Jersey to come inside and checked back later at the squirrel to see if it had gone, but it was still holding on to the house and jabbering. Mom had to go outside and throw rocks at the house to get the poor thing to move. Finally the squirrel left, but it took a while. Every time I think, or tell this story I picture the squirrel in the movie "Enchanted". The girls also pray that Jersey and the squirrel will play nice too. The animals around our house are sure getting blessed a lot.
Well, that is all I can think of for now. Sorry it is so long. I will try really hard to do better. I can't wait for this quarter of school to be done. It has really taken a lot of time away from the family and I hate that.
